Mainly working as a joiner in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden areas I also offer my services as forestry and natural building consultant.
As varied as my skill set may sound it has developed through my life journey of looking for the work I can love and do well and that includes using my mind, my hands and my heart in balanced manner.
I have started as a natural builder working with straw bale building, clay and lime and doing some on site carpentry. I have gradually started to focus more on the carpentry work while I also did a college course in bench joinery. After the college I had a year long apprenticeship placement (The Traditional Building Skills Bursary Scheme) working for Heritage Trust North West as a bench joiner – mostly working in traditional methods on listed buildings. The apprenticeship also included a placement of six weeks at a timber framing project with Alan Ritchie of Hewnwood in Wales.
After my apprenticeship was over I have returned to West Yorkshire and alongside working as a self employed carpenter and joiner i co-founded Blackbark Woodland Management. This ambitious project took on the task of bringing the neglected woodlands in the area back under traditional management while creating jobs and a local woodland based economy. In the latter part of my involvement with Blackbark I have focused on setting up and developing a saw milling business that would source, mill and sell local timber. In early 2016 after a burn out and a period of difficulty I decided to leave Blackbark and decided it was time to focus on my own joinery practice and building up my own business.
I hope you will support my business and craft by your patronage. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any project that involves making things of wood, in the woods or with the woods!
